Consent & Practice Information

Confidentiality

All sessions are confidential in accordance with state and federal laws, as well as the ethical standards of psychoanalytic practice. Information shared in treatment will not be disclosed without your written consent, except in cases where disclosure is required by law (for example, if there is reason to believe you are in imminent danger, or if a child, dependent adult, or elder is being abused or neglected).

Nature of Psychoanalytic Work

Psychoanalysis differs from other forms of therapy in its focus on the unconscious and the transferential relationship that develops between patient and analyst. The work proceeds at a pace determined by the patient’s own associations and resistances; there is no fixed number of sessions or predetermined outcome. The process can be demanding and transformative, requiring regular attendance and sustained commitment over time.

Consultation

Beginning psychoanalytic work is an important step, and it is natural to have questions about what the process will feel like. I offer an initial consultation so that we can meet, talk about what brings you in, and determine whether this work feels right for you. There is no expectation to decide quickly. The consultation simply provides space to sense whether a shared way of thinking and listening can develop. If we decide to work together I will bill you for the consultation and treat it as our first session. If we decide not to work together you will not be charged for the consultation.

Frequency and Duration

Psychoanalytic work typically takes place several times per week, depending on the individual’s needs and the nature of the analytic process. Each session lasts 45 minutes. Frequency and duration will be discussed together at the outset and may evolve as the work deepens.

Cancellations and Missed Sessions

Because the time is reserved specifically for you, sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice are charged the full fee. This policy is integral to maintaining the analytic frame and continuity of treatment. If you anticipate travel or extended absences, please discuss this in advance so we can plan accordingly.

Fees and Payment

My standard fee is $350 per session, with a sliding scale based on financial circumstances. Payment is due at the time of the session via cash, check, or electronic transfer. I am out of network for insurance but can provide a superbill for reimbursement through your insurer, depending on your plan.

Emergencies and Contact

I am generally not available for emergency or crisis intervention. In an emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For urgent matters related to your treatment, you may email or call, and I will respond as soon as possible during business hours.

Consent to Treatment

Beginning psychoanalytic work implies consent to participate in treatment under these terms. By initiating therapy, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the information above, and agree to the financial and scheduling arrangements discussed.
